Alma Renta was born in New York, New York to Puerto Rican parents and she was raised in the Bronx. Her family insisted she speak only Spanish at home which is how she developed her immaculate bilingual skills. In 1979, Alma was crowned Miss Turismo Hispana USA, which gave her the opportunity to be hosted by the Departments of Tourism in Spain, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Having received such cultural richness from her travels and surroundings growing up combined with a passion for music Alma decided to pursue a career in Radio Broadcasting and eventually came to establish her name brands: Alma Musik and TJ WEST. She has been very successful hosting a variety of radio formats such as (Cox Media) Country, R & B/Classic Soul, (Beasley Media, Entravision) Spanish CHR and (Steckline Communications) Classic Hits, among other Broadcast companies. Alma’s bilingual artistry and style has developed over the years in her work in major markets including Orlando, FL, Tampa-St. Petersburg, and New York City, where she was established as the first female radio DJ in a Tropical music format in 1988. In 1989, Canales Magazine featured Alma in their “400 Most Influential Hispanic Entertainers.” She has also worked in television hosting a Weekly Top 5 on WVEN-TV, Univision, Orlando, FL. On Live stage, Alma has presented great legends such as Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, Willie Chirino, Iris Chacon and Celia Cruz for major concerts at the Apollo Theater, Amway Center, UCF Arena, Amalie Arena and Madison Square Garden. Alma can be heard afternoon on sister station MY 106.3 as she plays the music that makes your hips move from today’s top Latin artists.
